Business Central Copilot Chat Now Supports Add-On Apps!

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central continues to evolve, and one of the most exciting developments in the 2024 release wave 1 is the expansion of Copilot chat capabilities. Initially launched to help users find data, troubleshoot issues, and learn new skills, Copilot chat is now stepping into a new role: guiding users through installed add-on apps.

This enhancement is currently in public preview, and as NIC Systems has emphasized in our previous blog post on using previews, a preview environment is a great way to explore upcoming capabilities while keeping in mind that they may still be evolving. We encourage our customers to experiment with previews in sandbox environments and provide feedback to help shape the final experience.

What’s New with Copilot Chat for Add-On Apps?

Many Business Central users rely on ISV add-on apps from Microsoft Marketplace to tailor their ERP experience, whether for industry-specific needs, localization, or specialized functionality. Until now, learning how to use these apps often meant digging through documentation or reaching out to support.

With this new preview feature, Copilot can now search and interpret the documentation of installed add-on apps, offering contextual guidance directly within the Business Central interface. This means users can:

  • Ask questions about how to set up or use features from installed apps.
  • Get help with errors or unfamiliar fields and pages.
  • Receive explanations based on the documentation provided by the app publishers.

This turns Copilot into more than just a helpful assistant, it becomes a domain-aware expert, capable of understanding your unique Business Central environment.

A Word on Documentation Quality

It’s important to note that Copilot’s effectiveness depends heavily on the quality of the documentation provided by each app publisher. Microsoft makes it clear that they are not responsible for third-party content, so the accuracy and usefulness of Copilot’s responses will vary depending on how well the app’s help content is written and maintained.

Why NIC Systems Is Ready

At NIC Systems, we’ve been investing heavily in our help system, knowing that a smart assistant like Copilot is only as good as the information it can access. Our help content is designed to be clear, comprehensive, and structured for AI-readability, ensuring that when Copilot searches our documentation, it finds answers that are actually helpful.

As this feature moves from preview to general availability, NIC Systems customers can expect a smoother, more intuitive experience with our add-on apps. Whether you’re onboarding new users or troubleshooting a complex workflow, Copilot + NIC Systems help = faster answers and better outcomes.
